Prof. Ph.D., D.Sc., Eng. Zbigniew Bielecki

He is a specialist in optical signal detection, optoelectronic metrology, low-noise electronic systems, optical communication, and optoelectronic sensors. He has been continuously engaged in scientific activity since 1983 at the Faculty of Electronics and the Institute of Optoelectronics (IOE) of the Military University of Technology (WAT), where he earned successive academic degrees in the field of electronics: Master’s (1980), Doctorate (1992), and Habilitation (2002). He received the title of Professor in 2008.

His doctoral thesis focused on “Analysis of the influence of selected design factors and operating conditions on the parameters of SPRITE detectors.” The subject of his habilitation dissertation was “Optimization of the signal-to-noise ratio in infrared radiation receivers.”

He has led several departments at IOE WAT, served as Deputy Commandant of IOE, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electronics, Deputy Commandant of the Military Technology Faculty, and Commandant of that Faculty. From 2008 to 2015, he held the position of Head of the Optical Signal Detection Team. He has served as Chair of the Senate Committee for Education and the IOE Science Committee.

He is a member of the Research Team for Defense and Security of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Committee on Electronics and Telecommunications of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), the Research Team for National Defense and Security at the National Center for Research and Development, the Polish Committee on Optoelectronics, the Polish Photonics Society, the Committee on Metrology and Measurement Instruments of PAN, the Scientific Council of the Institute of Electronic Technology, and the Scientific Council of the Institute of Electronic Materials Technology. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the quarterly journal “Problems of Mechatronics, Armament, Aviation, Security Engineering,” published by WAT-WML, “Metrology & Measurement Systems,” as well as 17 scientific committees for national and international conferences.

His total scientific output includes over 375 publications, including author and co-author of 49 works from the so-called Philadelphia list, 106 articles in journals, 4 monographs and books, 18 chapters in monographs and books, 198 conference papers, and 4 patents and patent applications. Nearly 50 works have been published in international publications, including Taylor & Francis, WIT Press, Laurin Publishing, Optica Applicata, Opto-Electronics Review, Molecular and Quantum Acoustics, and Proceedings of SPIE.

He is a co-author of two English-language books: the chapter “Detection of Optical Radiation” in the book “Handbook of Optoelectronics” (Taylor & Francis, 2006) and the chapter “Passive Infrared Detection” in the book “The 2005 Photonics Handbook” (Laurin Publishing, USA, 2005), as well as a monograph titled “Detection of Optical Signals,” published by the Scientific and Technical Publisher, Warsaw 2001.

He teaches courses including: pulse electronic systems, optical signal detection, optical radiation sensors, optical radiation detectors, optical radiation detection systems, and optoelectronic devices at the Faculty of Electronics, the Faculty of Mechatronics, and the Institute of Optoelectronics at WAT.

Professor Zbigniew Bielecki has been awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for his overall achievements (2006), the Gold Cross of Merit (2001), and the Silver Cross of Merit (1996), the Medal of the National Education Commission (2000), and honored with the Medal “Distinguished Academic Teacher of WAT” (1999).
